. and i believe what causes that change is that 20 of the victims in newtown, connecticut, were young children. and there is not only a heartbreak across our country about this, not only anger, but i think there's guilt. and we all ought to feel guilty because as a society, what the attacks in newtown said to us is that, we have failed to fulfill what would seem to be our most natural -- natural law. if you will. responsibility which is to protect the safety and lives of our children. >> senator joe lieberman talking on the senate floor saying they ought to feel guilty, referencing himself and his other colleagues, that americans aren't protected by stricter gun laws in this country. the senator there eye were an impassion -- with an impassioned speech. but even as both members, or even as members of both chambers of congress are advocates for strong gun regulations in the wake of this tragedy, there are some who would argue that more control of firearms is not the answer. joining me now is one of them, georgia republican congressman jack kingston. sir, it's good to have you here. i h

but the commander in chief. joining me from newtown, connecticut, is chris jansing, host of "jansing & company." chris, we heard a lot of different things about flowers running out of local shops there in town because of the outpouring the support for the victims. as we watched the scene there grow. describe what you've been witnessing as you people prepare to bury two of these little 6-year-olds. >> everybody that i talked to, thomas, in this community,s especially the families have told me that they feel the support here and literally around the country. i was talking to principal hochsprung's daughter, erica. we heard from her this morning. she said one of the things that has heartened her is hearing from teachers all around the country, house inspired they would have been. she said if my mother would have had one message to anybody, it would have been read a book to a child. and they've been overwhelmed by social media, support that they've gotten. then if you look behind me. i've been to this memorial in downtown as early as 6:00 in the morning and as late as 11:30 at night. and families

and wakes and speaking with ordinary people of newtown and the state of connecticut. the refrain i have heard over and over again from newtown and connecticut and all the run the country is you need to do something about the guns. the nra statement today is sadly and shamefully inadequate, calling for more guns and rejecting real action against gun violence. at a defining a historic moment for our nation demanding courageous leadership, the nra has declined to step forward as a credible and constructive partner. the proposal for more armed guards in schools may be helpful in some instances, but it falls short of the strong, serious comprehensive action needed to stop the kind of horrific tragedy that occurred last week. many police that spoke to me on that day when we take a said that the killer was so heavily armed that they doubted they could have stopped him. the american people are demanding real change. the nra proposal fails to offer any real protection from violence. members in connecticut and around the country are writing and calling me to say that the nra does not speak for th

. the first legal action is underway in connection to the school shooting in newtown, connecticut. a lawyer has asked to sue the state of connecticut for $100 million on behalf of a 6-year- old survivor. the lawyer claims the state failed to protect the child from foreseeable harm. states are generally immune from such lawsuits so the suit cannot go forward unless the state agrees to allow it. >>> scary moments in phoenix arizona this weekend. a woman was kidnapped and forced to rob her bank. coworkers arrived to work saturday morning and found the woman with some kind of device around her neck. fortunately bomb squad crews were able to remove the device. it turned out not to be explosive. the suspect is still on the loose, still unclear whether any money was actually stolen. >>> protesters are gathering once again in the indian capitol of new delhi following the death of a woman who was gang raped and beaten on a bus in the city. she suffered severe organ damage in the attack two weeks ago. six men charged with murder. they face the death penalty if convicted. >>> investigators in pakistan

in with the news of a massacre of innocent children in newtown, connecticut, followed by the loss of our wonderful colleague, senator danny inouye so i will leave this extraordinary institution and experience with a heavy heart for those who have been lost just in the last few days. i do want to thank the people of texas for asking me to represent them in washington. i want to thank the many people who have served on my staff for almost 20 years. i have to say i am touched that both benches on both sides of this room are filled with my staff members who have been so hardworking and so loyal and have produced so much in 20 years for our state and nation, and i thank them. i do want to thank my colleagues and all the people who work here -- senators, but also those who work behind the scenes to make our lives as good as they can be with the hard hours that we all have. those who keep our buildings safe and clean, who work in the libraries, the shops, the cafeterias, and who guide tens of thousands of tourists through our nation's beautiful capitol each year. i want to thank my husband ray and our tw
